Equi-Steps...
Is a local Riding Stable offering unique and engaging programs incorporating experiential learning through animal interaction. Our programs include: Equine Assisted Learning (EAL), horsemanship and riding lessons, on site leases, training, field trips and educational programs, events, youth camps, corporate team building events, women’s empowerment programs and so much more. Equi-steps facilitates one of the top rated Equine Assisted Learning programs in the world. We are thrilled to bring this program to Portage County. Equi-Steps is convenient to Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Cleveland, Ravenna, Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, Hudson, Kent, Streetsboro, and surrounding areas of Northeast Ohio.
Only certified facilitators work with participants in a maximum ratio of one facilitator to 8 participants to guarantee maximum benefit and interaction. Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a learner based educational experience with horses. EAL is an effective approach to human development that encourages individual and team growth. Participants engage in objectively driven exercises and find themselves learning valuable life skills in a fun and exciting atmosphere while working with horses. EAL has proven to be effective, powerful, positive, educational and creative. Equi-steps emphasizes it’s Building Block curriculum of facilitating life skills through positively reinforced interaction with horses. Exercises are developed to encourage self-confidence and a variety of life and problem solving skills through validated,
hands-on experiences. EAL is a unique, highly specialized field in that all interactions take place on
the ground and involves no riding.
EAL is a rapidly growing field that is well researched, documented, and scientifically proven. Equi-steps offers EAL programs for individuals and groups including but not limited to those impacted by PTSD, Depression/Anxiety, ASD, bullying, grief, health issues, significant life change, family challenges, as well as positive team building workshops for corporations, families, couples and sports teams. All programs are tailored to meet the individual needs of the client.

Meet Karen Downie
Hello!
My name is Karen and I have been involved with horses for almost 50 years. Originally from Pennsylvania, I have resided in Ohio for almost 20 years. My love of these majestic creatures and passion for helping people motivated me to find the perfect way to combine the two things I love and help make a difference in this world. Facilitating Equine Assisted Learning and teaching people about horses are the most rewarding things I have ever been involved in. My extensive background in investigation, sales, and marketing have provided me with the perfect platform for bringing these programs to Portage County. Whether you are a CEO, stay at home mom, or child and anyone in between, horses have something to teach all of us. My passion for these programs are because they are proven to be successful, research driven, and offer a structured curriculum where the horses are the teachers. I just facilitate the learning. Being involved with horses has taught me so many valuable life lessons that have helped me overcome struggles, be successful and enjoy my life. No matter how long you are around horses they are always teaching you something! I reside in Ravenna, Ohio with my husband Chris and our fur family. My horses are very excited about their new jobs and can now help “earn their keep”.
I can ‘t wait to meet you and introduce you to our herd. What do you want to learn?????
